- The learning objectives of the activity
The
objective of the activity is to help student remember the main events of the
story after watching the film and reading its summary. They will have to write a short film review
afterwards, using as much time sequencers as possible.
- The advantages of using TimeToast for this
activity
Timetoast
is the right tool to use because it is visual and it will become handy for
students when discussing the order in which event took place. It is also a way
to set the minimum contents they should include in their written reviews and
help them plan their compositions.
- The steps you followed to set up the activity
This
was an activity carried out during volunteer reinforcement classes. We watched
the film in one session. In a second session, we used Timetoast to help us
remember the main events of the story. During the rest of the class, we
reviewed the time sequencers we were dealing with in our regular classes and
wrote the first draft of their compositions.
- Any problems and how you and the students solved
them.
None.
- The students’ reaction – how did they feel about
using TimeToast to complete the task?
They
liked it, although it was our first time using it, the general feeling was that
this tool was very helpful. We had watched the film a week ago, so it helped us
organise our ideas and continue the activity without wasting time.
- Some things that you would change / improve next
time
I
will add pictures to make it more visual and try to use it during a regular
class to support an on-going topic. This time I just wanted to familiarise
myself with the tool, that is why I chose to try it in a reinforcement class.

It was used as an
ice-breaker for the second session.
It was a positive surprise
for my students, since it was their first time using this tool.
It saved us a lot of time
and helped to re-tune our minds for completing this activity.
